A comprehensive vision exam, covered by your VSP insurance, is performed annually to assess your visual system and eye health by using a battery of tests including:

  • Vision assessment, determination of eyeglass prescription when possible
  • Examination of ocular muscles and alignment
  • Routine evaluation of eye health
  • Screening for common eye health conditions
  • Retinal image of the back of the eye

When a medical diagnosis or medical condition is present that affects your eyes, such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or diabetes, just to name a few examples, or you have an eye disease or eye problem such as an infection (pink eye), dry eyes, allergy, or cataracts, to name a few, you need a medical eye exam. This exam will be filed with your medical insurance and the copays and deductibles for that insurance will apply.

The comprehensive annual vision exam with VSP is covered—you pay $0. The retinal image is normally an additional cost of $39, but this cost is waived at the vision center – you pay $0. However, you will be responsible for the cost of a contact lens exam, contacts and glasses—the cost will be dependent on your eyewear needs and selection using your VSP Vision Benefit Plan.

If you have any medical conditions relating to your vision such as headaches, floaters, dry eye, cataracts, diabetes, etc., your major medical (Cigna/Allegiance) should cover your exam. If you have an HMO plan, it will be a $10 copay. If you have a high-deductible plan, the exam fee will apply towards your deductible. Depending on the results of the exam, other tests may need to be ordered that could have additional copays.

If you have a question about something on your bill from a comprehensive vision exam or eyewear order, call 407-934-4100 to talk to your Celebration Vision Center staff.

If you have questions about your bill from a medical eye exam, please call the member service number on your Cigna or Allegiance medical insurance card.
